Summary

In many parts of the world, it is impossible to grow plants year around with little to no maintenance. To solve this problem, we developed an IoT system to monitor and control environmental factors for plants. The system incorporates a solenoid, soil humidity sensor, 120VAC relays, and a UV lamp. A particle photon controls relays which in turn control the solenoids and UV lamp which effectively allows for control of soil moisture and day/night cycles. The particle photon allows for variables and functions to be accessed from the cloud. This functionality allowed us to develop an IoT user interface that can be accessed from any internet connection that allows the user to monitor soil moisture levels and the day/night cycles, while at the same time allowing the user to change the soil moisture level goal and the length of day/night cycles.
