With the rapid increase in bike theft since the onset of COVID-19, a problem arises with our current methods of security and that is: besides bike locks, no other forms of security are utilized to aid in the protection of bikes or monitor their status. The solution to this problem can be solved by my IoT project. My device utilizes a shadow detector (LDR) to monitor activity around a bike and an HTML page that enables thief scaring actuators based on the user’s desires. In addition to these features, a bonus potentiometer acts as a last resort alarm turn-off. By monitoring the environment with an LDR, instantaneous data can be sent regarding the presence of people around a bike. Additionally, the HTML page allows for modes to be enabled anywhere that has internet, and the usage of a buzzer/LED will scare off any wandering thieves. This device uses an LDR and potentiometer as sensors. The device also uses 3 Neopixel LEDs and a buzzer as actuators. The internet is utilized in this project through an online HTML page that changes the modes on the device, and a particle.publish() operation enables any other user/device to monitor motion through the cloud.
